How to Apply for a Bursary or Scholarship

The Online Scholarships and Bursaries System, available through uoZone gives you access to the Faculty of Social Sciences' and the University's complete directory of scholarships and bursaries, allowing you to view them according to specific requirements. The following step-by-step procedure explains how to apply for scholarships directly online.

Step 1: Log on to your account through uoZone

Log into uoZone. Prospective students will receive their login information in their letter of acknowledgement when they apply for admission.

Step 2: Access Online Scholarships and Bursaries

Place your cursor on the "Finance and jobs " menu item at the top of the screen, then click on "Online Scholarships and Bursaries".

Step 3: Confirm your student profile (optional)

To ensure that your profile is up-to-date, click on "Modify Your Profile" on the left side of the screen. If necessary, make changes to your profile by filling in all the appropriate fields, and then click on "Update Profile". This will bring you to the list of awards for which you might be eligible.

Step 4: Select the scholarships for which you wish to apply

Decide how you would like your list to be displayed by using the "Sort Options" drop-down menu in the upper right corner. Then scroll down to choose an award. Click on an award to consult the eligibility criteria. Read them carefully. You may apply for a scholarship four months prior to the application deadline.

Step 5: Apply for a scholarship or a bursary

Once you have chosen a scholarship for which you want to apply and have confirmed that you meet the eligibility criteria, click on the "Apply Online" link at the bottom of the page. Some of your personal information will appear on the .pdf form. Make sure the information is correct, and add any other information requested. Click on "Submit" at the bottom of the form to submit your application. The "Financial Questionnaire" form will open for you to complete (if financial need is a criteria of the scholarship).


You may have to provide supporting documents with your award applications. For each document, you must specify:

  • your last name, first name and student number;
  • the application number assigned by Online Scholarships and Bursaries;
  • a short description of the document where necessary

Note: if your documents are not clearly identified, your application will not be processed.
