The Invention of Infodemics: On the Outbreak of Zika and Rumors

As concern about Zika increased over 2015, Meg Stalcup, professor at the School of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Ottawa, began to collect rumors “by hand,” so to speak. This meant copying articles published in the anglophone and lusophone press into Evernote, carefully including the comment section where fears and blame popped up.
