What will I do if I cannot go on the field for my field research course? Some professors have given a class that has served as a substitute for field research. In May 2020, Meg Stalcup, professor in sociological and anthropological studies, gave the course Activism and Social Change in Brazil which substituted for her field research in Brazil. This new course seems to have pleased students and sparked a new interest in them. Here is what professor Stalcup had to say:

I thought the course was actually really fun. The students said they almost wish they could do both this course and the field research. They felt like this course gave them such a good understanding of Brazil. It allowed them to engage with the country […] in a way that if they were to now go to Brazil, they felt like they would be so much better prepared.
