It is with great pleasure that we announce the arrival of the Institute of the Environment at the Faculty of Social Sciences for the next two years. Housed within the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, the Institute of the Environment (IE) is the University’s hub for environmental sustainability-related research, teaching and other activities.

It has built a national profile in the area of environment and economy through their research and policy network, The Smart Prosperity Institute (SPI), which brings together business, policy and academic leaders to allow innovative ideas to inform policy development.

The Institute is home to the Collaborative Specialization in Environmental Sustainability, the Master's in Environmental Sustainability, and the PhD in Environmental Sustainability. “Our programs prepares graduates to navigate key environmental sustainability issues through a real-world approach to education, bringing practice into the classroom and learning into the community.” Stewart Elgie, Director, Institute of the Environment.

“The Faculty’s partnership with the Institute of the Environment will help advance our mission of increasing research intensity and visibility, contribute in the development of micro-credit courses in environmental studies as well as help strengthen our cross-Faculty bonds through their interdisciplinary programs.” Victoria Barham, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences.
