Courses, readings, assignments, work, volunteering, being fit, getting involved, and yes…SLEEP!! Today’s students are busier than ever. Faculty of Social Sciences student mentors will show you best practices for time management.
Bring your agenda and your course outlines. This hands-on workshop will help you get organized and draw up a plan to achieve your academic and personal goals for the session.

Noteworthy: Effective Note-Taking Strategies for FSS students
Fact: Thirty minutes after attending class, you have already forgotten approximately 50% of the information provided to you.
This workshop will help you recognize what is important in readings and in class and offer simple strategies to help you develop your note-taking skills, including how to take concise, well-organized and well-worded notes. You’ll also get useful tips to help you retain information and maximize study time. Join us — let’s talk!

Research and Essay Writing Workshop
You have a paper due? You want to develop your writing skills? You do not know where to start?
The Mentoring Centre, the Academic Writing Help Centre (AWHC) and the Social Sciences Library are getting together to talk about the structure of papers, research, the writing process and referencing. This workshop will provide you with resources and tools to master the task.

Job Search Strategies and Tools in Social Sciences
This presentation will give you all the tips and tricks you need to start your career in the field of Social Sciences. Through extensive research, the Career Development Centre has identified 7 global key competencies that employers seek in potential employees. You will learn about them and will be asked to reflect on your own strengths and weaknesses, which will allow you to create an action plan geared toward developing these skills and turning your weaknesses into assets.
Become a Change Maker
Are you interested in using your skills to become a change maker? This session will share the story of local change makers who are using their skills to make a difference! Two local change makers will chat with students about their story, how you can make a difference now and what’s available on campus to help you on your path!

Join the FSS community for a free crêpes breakfast!
Take advantage of the breakfast to stop by the Career Development Centre and the Michaëlle-Jean Centre for global and community engagement kiosks. They will help you find a job or volunteer opportunity that will lead to the development of new skills.
