Karen Marie Olsen Lawford, a PhD candidate in uOttawa’s Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies, is one of this year’s two recipients of the Henry Mandelbaum Graduate Fellowships for Excellence in Social Sciences, Humanities or Arts.
Karen, described by her nominators as “an exemplary community member, committed activist and a dedicated scholar”, was recognized for her work examining shortages in maternal health care for First Nations women living in the Canadian north. Karen was chosen unanimously as the winner for the fellowship at the doctoral level.
