The Department of Economics is pleased to announce the creation of the annual Marleau Lecture Series on Economic and Monetary Policy. The creation of this annual lecture series is thanks to a generous gift made by Hubert Marleau, a graduate of the department of economics. Mr. Marleau, president, founder and director of the Palos Capital Corporation, is a leading figure in Canada’s financial community. He was governor of the Montreal and Vancouver stock exchanges, director of the listing committee for the Toronto Stock Exchange, as well as a director with the Investment Dealers Association of Canada. He has worked at the senior executive level of several large investment banks, notably Nesbitt Thomson Inc., Levesque Beaubien Inc. and Marleau, Lemire Inc.
The signature lecture and graduate research seminars are designed to contribute to the creation of knowledge, analysis and discussion of economic and monetary policy, influence the economic policy agenda both in Canada and abroad, and enable the advanced professional training of faculty members and graduate students in the Department of Economics at uOttawa, Carleton University and beyond.
On May 15, 2019, the Department of Economics is pleased to welcome Research Advisor Regis Barnichon from San Francisco Fed, as the first speaker of the Marleau Graduate Research Seminar on Economic and Monetary Policy. The inaugural Hubert Marleau Lecture will be held in December 2019.
