Ashley Chen (MA student, Criminology, University of Ottawa), Sarah Fiander (PhD student, Sociology, Carleton University), Justin Piché (Associate Professor, Criminology, University of Ottawa) and Kevin Walby (Associate Professor, Criminal Justice, University of Winnipeg)  have published an article in Qualitative Sociology Review entitled "Captive and Captor Representations in Canadian Penal History Museums".  The paper is based on an analysis of representations of prison life and work in Canadian lock-up, jail, prison and penitentiary museums that were studied by research team members from the Carceral Cultures Research Initiative, which was funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) from 2012 to 2015.

Over the past two years, Ashley has also been examining corporate harm and worked as a research assistant for a SSHRC-funded project under the supervision of Steven Bittle (Associate Professor, Criminology, University of Ottawa). She will defend her MA thesis on November 9th examining how the Canadian state, corporations, and civil society groups respond to crises in global capitalism and transnational accountability through an analysis of debates concerning the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse in Bangladesh.
