David Moffette reacts to proposals to test immigrants on their values on Radio-Canada International

In an interview in Spanish for Radio-Canada International, Professor David Moffette argues that proposals by Conservative leadership candidate Kellie Leitch, Parti Québécois leadership candidate Jean-François Lisée, and Coalition Avenir Québec to screen immigrants' values or impose a Charter of Values are problematic and worrisome. He claims that they can only do the opposite of their main stated objective: hinder integration and further marginalization. Furthermore, he argues that if the CCP, PQ and CAQ are really worried about gender equality, they should start by increasing the number of women candidates they present during elections and pledge to better fund feminist and anti-violence against women initiatives, not blame immigrants.
