Congratulations to professor Michael Kempa who is the recipient of this year's Faculty of Social Sciences Award for Activities in the Media!
Michael Kempa a social scientist with the spirit of an investigative journalist: he considers these parallel domains of public-interest scholarship. With professional experience inside the CBC, Postmedia, and other major news providers, Michael seizes opportunities in the shifting media and university landscapes to maximise mutual and public benefit. Rather than simply having academics comment on the news or write up their own research for popular consumption, this new form of collaboration starts right at the stage of research design and data collection, and carries on through analysis and dissemination. The 2016 Faculty of Social Sciences Award for Activities in the Media or Community will provide resources to drive this work forward.
