CIRCEM Doctoral Thesis Completion Scholarships

The CIRCEM offers scholarships to doctoral students who are active within the CIRCEM and who are near completion of their doctoral studies. In order to be considered eligible, students must be writing a thesis in French and must no longer be eligible for scholarships from the main granting agencies. Each year, the CIRCEM will have two competitions for these scholarships. The amounts offered will vary according to the number of applications received and the funds available.

Eligibility criteria:

  • To have completed at least four years in a doctoral program at the University of Ottawa
  • To be writing a PhD thesis in French
  • To no longer have access to scholarship programs from the main granting agencies (FRQSC, SSHRC, OGS)
  • To have participated in the activities of the CIRCEM in the last few years.

The selection criteria will be the following:

  • financial need;
  • participation at CIRCEM events;
  • thesis written in French.

In order to apply, the student must send a letter of intent that justifies their eligibility for this scholarship. This letter must also mention:

  • the title of the thesis,
  • the name of the thesis supervisor, and
  • the expected date of submission for the thesis.

CIRCEM Postdoctoral Intern Scholarship

The CIRCEM offers scholarships to individuals who have completed their PhDs and who wish to apply to a Canadian funding agency in order to pursue a postdoctoral internship at the CIRCEM. These scholarships will help support the applications submitted to the major granting agencies. These internships will allow them to present their research at the CIRCEM and to participate in its activities. International students who have financial support equivalent to $34,000 CAN are also eligible for this scholarship. The amounts offered will vary according to the number of applications received and the funds available.

Eligibility criteria:

  • To have completed a doctoral degree (or to be very close to submission)
  • To have demonstrated one’s capacity to express oneself and to carry out a conversation in French
  • To be applying to a major granting agency (for a postdoctoral scholarship of a minimum of $34,000)
  • To demonstrate the relevance of one’s research for at least one of the research axes of the CIRCEM.

The selection criteria will be the following: quality of the project; relevance of the postdoctoral research for the CIRCEM; demonstrated ability to express oneself in French.

In order to apply, the student must submit a letter of intent that presents the main elements of the proposed project. This letter must be accompanied by a CV, as well as a short letter of support from one researcher affiliated with the CIRCEM. CIRCEM Visiting Researchers Scholarship

The CIRCEM offers scholarships to researchers who hold a PhD and who wish to pursue a research residency at the CIRCEM on one of the main research themes of the CIRCEM. During their visit, the invited researchers will have the opportunity to present their work within a workshop or a public conference, and they will also be able to participate in the Center’s regular activities. The amounts offered will vary each year according to the number of applications received and the funds available.

Eligibility criteria:

  • To have demonstrated one’s capacity to express oneself and to carry out a conversation in French
  • To have completed a PhD
  • To have demonstrated the relevance of this research stay for one of the research axes of the CIRCEM

The selection criteria will be the following: quality of the project; relevance of the proposed research for the CIRCEM; demonstrated ability to express oneself in French.
