The Chair of Ukrainian Studies is a research unit associated with the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa. It is the first chair in Canada and outside of Ukraine dedicated specifically to the study of contemporary Ukraine or related topics dealing with politics, economy and sociology of Eastern European region and Post-Soviet Space. The Chair uses an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together faculty members, research fellows, and graduate students from different disciplines as well as community members to discuss the issues of interest.
Welcome Message from the Chairholder
Welcome to the official website of the University of Ottawa's Chair of Ukrainian Studies! Founded in 1993 and located within the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ottawa, the Chair of Ukrainian Studies encourages multidisciplinary dialogue between students, faculty, the Ukrainian diaspora, and the community at large on issues related to contemporary Ukraine. As the chairholder since 2003, I am proud and enthousiast to be a part of this vivid and dynamic community of researchers working on issues important for Ukraine’s past, present and future. Through our events and activities and the involvement of our faculty members and graduate students, the Chair is also honored to play a role and to engage in debates within the Ukrainian community, in Ottawa as elsewhere.
On our official website, you'll find information on the Chair's mission and history, research and activities, including upcoming public lectures, seminars, and conferences. I'm excited about this new online space dedicated to highlight Ukrainian studies and our activities, and hope you will be, too.
