This year, the Faculty celebrated two major reunions: the 5th Anniversary of the School of International Development and Global Studies, which reunited over 115 SIDGS grads, as well as the Pages of All Times Reunion, a new tradition which brought together over 187 current and former pages from the House of Commons and the Senate, as well as special guests Mayor Jim Watson, the Hon. Here at the Faculty of Social Sciences, many alumni seized the opportunity to visit our new Social Sciences Building with its spectacular Living Wall, as well as to participate in a guided tour the world-class INSPIRE laboratory, where neuroscientists are breaking new ground in discovering the links between what people think and how they physically react. Later, they attended alecture by Professor Darcy Santor, who presented his newly created smartphone app to increase mental health literacy. Other conferences during the week included UN Ambassador Gilles Rivard’s engaging lecture on Canada’s Mission to the United Nations and John Bell’s extraordinary presentation on how viruses can be used to treat cancer patients.
Destination 2013 and Alumni Association Awards of Excellence
On Saturday, May 11th, for the second year, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum was transformed into an ultra-cool urban lounge for Destination 2013. Presented by the Alumni Association and hosted by Lisa LaFlamme and Patrick Lagacé, this electrifying party succeeded in bringing a new energy to our alumni, thanks to delectable cocktails and culinary treats, as well as outstanding musical performances by Les Trois Accords and Alan Doyle. The Alumni Association Awards of Excellence were also presented during this evening. Congratulations to the six winners for their outstanding achievements: Dr. Vincent Lam, Linda Eagen, Dr. Marc Ruel, Renee Black, Anne McDougall and Richard L’Abbé.
This year’s activities were a great success, and we are looking forward to making next year even better! With that said, we look forward to seeing you in May 2014!
